OPDAT is finally over.
At first I still doubt if this programme is effective in training..... but after enduring extreme conditions, hot, cold, wilderness, deprivation of sleep, mosquito bites and rain..... I now have a feeling of fearless.... i guess that's one of the purpose of this training.
Starting from Day 1..... Hike, hike and more hiking. It's not too far, but under such hot weather a little while outside is already causing a great deal of discomfort. We had a training at a water tunnel around noon and my mountain boots are all wet, but my journey continues till around 9 pm that night, you can imagine in what state i was in..... That night we were abandoned at a peak, and our instructions was to await further instruction, I dont mind staying out in the wild, so at first i had the first part of the night sleeping okay (though dirty), but tough luck struck around 4 am, it started raining, not just misty rain, but a heavy downpour..... We were all left soaked wet even in our "supposedly water proof" windbreak..... It was so freaking cold at the peak because there is no shelter that we can use...... it keep on raining and raining, at some point i was so cold and down that i started thinking why am i not sleeping in my bed at home but staying there.... it's such negative thought but i guess it's very normal at the same time..... glad i have the support from my mates that we finally make it through the 45 minutes rain...... As the sun rise the mood went up again.
Day 2 was a bit different, after cooking breakfast we were assigned to a water sports centre, doing canoeing, it's very fun and i enjoyed the day there. That night, we had some more training games..... it's always good the spend time with the best people available, i feel that my colleagues are awesome and their viewpoints are sometimes very enlightening..... for example, from some stupid 'treasure hunt' game we ended up in a deep discussion related to the 'fundementals of leadership' and the importance of 'selflessness'..... I havent quite expected this.....
Day 3.... our bonding are getting better and better...... with more hiking we spoke more and understand each other more..... we ended up doing more and more climbing and went to Sharp Peak, not just climb, but run on top of the 468 meters peak..... that's quite exhausting task but also a fun one.
Day 4. We broaded a marine vehicle and ended up in a camp site at Wan Tsai.... originally i expected the camp may go longer till saturday afternoon or even sunday..... but upon arrival the instructors gave us a surprise by claiming the OPDAT is officially over...... we had a relatively easy night staying there and we used our time well there. Lots of laughters and joy filled the air..... Like what i shared in the debriefing, the OPDAT is not too hard (for me), but certainly it's a very memorable one.
Gosh, I'm totally exhausted..... needa take a nap..... before working for the assignment for next week.
